ABSTRACT

Today, we’re reducing our children’s play environment down to the size of a screen. Ubiquitous computing and the ‘internet of toys’ will allow us to release a child’s play back into their natural environment– where they can enjoy the physical play that is essential for learning & development, imagination and creativity.

As we envisage the connected home of the future, we can consider the innovations and technologies that allow children to create their own play narratives and we will discover new play patterns across physical-to-digital toys, apps and games.

In this presentation we explore some of the technologies which are currently emerging from research & development and crowdfunded product design — leading us to the future of play: Whole Child Play.
